Welcome to the freshest, hottest heli skiing experience, located right here in the U.S.A’s. own Selkirk Mountains! Yes, we’ve got a piece of the world famous Selkirks and their snow too!
Selkirk Powder Guides have been pioneering backcountry skiing in the American Selkirk range for over 15 years, and our heli skiing service grew as a natural progression of that fun-filled pursuit. Our heli skiing experience is the culmination of several years of careful preparation resulting in our inaugural season last winter. Now that the word is out and more and more skiers are discovering our simply amazing terrain and snow, you’ll be rewarded with lifetime memories and smiles you just won’t be able to suppress.
Heli skiing with us is an authentic backcountry experience, and it’s special. We don’t take multiple groups out on a given day, which is a standard practice among many other heli ski operators. Only a handful of skiers or riders are accompanied by two Selkirk Powder guides, allowing for a very personalized ski experience. Your tour will be truly distinctive on your ski day, ensuring the memories you earn with your turns are that much sweeter!
The terrain we heli ski in is varied, offering runs for the likes of pro athletes on to family cruisers. In order to maximize your fun and the safe movement for all, skiers and riders should at a minimum be high intermediates. We ski in an alpine environment on natural aspects, where snow and conditions are uncontrolled.
There’s really no vertical limit for this ultimate skiing experience; our guides will work with you to put together just the right tour. On a typical day you’ll ski between 10-14,000 vertical feet, and we may remain out in the field for 4 or more hours!
Terrain: Unspoiled Idaho State Forest land, consisting of everything from alpine cirque bowls and powder fields, chutes and glades to covered tree runs
Snowpack: Reliable and consistent. We draw moisture from the north and south, so we’re usually in the path of storm systems all season long. That equates to over 300″ during an average season, with a stable snowpack averaging about 120+ inches in depth holding from Feb thru April (measured at 6350′, deeper at the higher elevations)
Safety: Selkirk Powder is a licensed Level II Alpine Ski Outfitter, and also operates a professional division of National Ski Patrol. Our ski and snowboard guides are well seasoned and specially trained
Helicopters: We fly Bell 407’s and 212’s because they’re powerful and have great speed as well as lift capacity
FBO Location: Sandpoint, Idaho, just over an hour’s drive from Spokane International Airport
