March Radness

March Radness

Greetings to the Powderhounds of March!

February was flow-tastic: excellent skiing / sledding conditions, heaps of snow, and endless smiles on all. Add in smooth operations, a big batch of bright sunny days, and the month seemed to swish by like a beautiful wedel turn in silky, cold pow!

Do I need to tell you that it’s March already! Well, it is. To celebrate March Radness, we’re going to have a shred party and do 360’s… Noooo, not the jump—too old for that… Yes, we’re putting skiing and riding on sale for the rest of the mechanized season! (see below). So, as the days grow longer and nights remain cold, rest assured we’ll be up here ranging about the snowfields searching for those special places until the next time you are set to put yourself into our spectacular terrain. Until then read on, ride on, and please pass it on!

New sled tour!

We are in beta-mode and expect to roll out this longer sled tour next season. If you’ve experienced our Middle Fork Valley tour already, then get ready for the next step up. The Moose Knuckle Tour offers snowmobilers more miles, more awesome scenery, and, namely, a stop for a hearty lunch at the Moose Knuckle BBQ, Burgers & Brews at Priest Lake. Now you’ll ride up to 40–50 miles, enjoy tons more terrain and critter life, and have that all topped off with a great, big, juicy burger! Standby, we will update you on the pricing and reservations process soon!

Back to the skin-track

We’re hearkening back to our roots with human-powered backcountry skiing programs. We’ve developed four tours using Schweitzer Basin as the hub and are working towards touring in the heli terrain as well.

Flow–ing testimonials

Delivering the goods

I’ve been cat skiing with Selkirk Powder for years with a group from my old home town. Over those years we’ve always had nothing but positive experiences with Selkirk. We eventually started bringing our now adult children. This season I organized a group of current friends, all exceptional skiers. And, as always Selkirk delivered the goods.

Their attention to detail, understanding of what’s important to veteran and novice cat skiers, finding the right conditions, attention to backcountry safety, and general organized approach, makes for a rewarding, satisfying and unique cat skiing experience. In the ten plus years me and my groups have been cat skiing with this group, I’ve always felt like part of the Selkirk family. And I don’t ever recall not skiing in untracked lines, even in the occasional low snow year.

Besides the positive experiences at Selkirk Powder, Schweitzer Mountain offers the few of us in our group who aren’t ready for the backcountry an opportunity to ski a great intermediate mountain and be able to spend time with the rest of the group. The town of Sandpoint offers excellent opportunity for apres ski, enjoyable evenings eating, drinking, and fun, all within walking distance of our hotel.

We’ve already booked our adventure next season.
