Big snow’s a-comin’!

Welcoming this Heavy Weather!

With big storms rolling cold up high, the Selkirk Powder ops team has managed to successfully open 100 % of our roads, all the while Schweitzer’s grooming ops has been working fantastically with the inconsistent conditions affecting the lower portion of the front end. (Read the Schweitzer Snow Report.)

In anticipation of the forthcoming exceptional conditions (read the 7 day forecast), we’ve been brushing up on our route skills and are chomping at the bit to bring you to the goods.

Keep on turnin’,

Heli skiing update

We’ll just let a few guests from last year spin it for us:

Heli Skiing with Selkirk Powder

If you’re reading this review, you need to put helicopter skiing from Selkirk Powder Guides on your bucket list. It was the best skiing I’ve experienced in my lifetime. The guides know the mountains really well, and they are focused on finding the best snow. They are also focused on safety and making sure everyone is having a great time.

When you book, plan to stay a couple of days, and let them decide which is the best day for helicopter skiing—great snow conditions make all the difference.

Heli ski the Selkirks

I got to fill an empty seat on a March 29 heli ski trip with Selkirk Powder Guides, and it was great. I have been to Canada with one of the big name heli ski ops and was not super impressed. Too many people, too much regimentation, too much flying, and not enough skiing: groups of skiers were too big, and inevitably somebody held the rest up, and the guides were pretty jaded. The Selkirk operation is the opposite of all those negatives.

Smaller group, amped-up guides free-flowing due to not trying to run three groups of skiers out of one heli, gorgeous scenery, and great terrain. I’m not going back to Canada, but I am going back to Selkirk.

We'll spin the business realities: online heli bookings are on hold, but telephone and in-person bookings remain in progress! While we are very confident of the merits of this special kind of skiing and riding, we are finding that operators are too expensive to bring in to be resident. We have a five-person team working out the realities daily and are close to making an operator decision, so stand by for updates.

Thanks for all your enthusiasm and good wishes; that goes a long way with the heli team!

Show ’em the powder

What are you going to do with your little rippers after you “abandon” them for another powder session with us? Well, we have just the ticket: how about taking them on their own powder tour—we really like the little guys and gals! So, if they’re 5 or older, bring them along because snowmobiling is an active-participant sport and full of the speed- and motion-thrills kids seek! If they’re really wee-little, then our snowcat tour is an exciting adventure in a big, warm truck in the snow. (And what little one doesn’t like a big, warm truck in the snow?)
